As part of its drive to expose children to Jamaica’s heritage and culture, Irie Kidz’s team members volunteer each and every Saturday to support the MultiCare Youth Foundation’s ‘Art on the Street’ programme, situated on Gold Street, Kingston. The initiative introduces more than 30 children, each week to the creative arts, and tutors who are experts in the visual arts field. These experts are part of a team of volunteers giving back to the community.
The end of the school year culminated with an ‘Art on the Street’ exhibition of art and craft showcasing the creativity and talent of children as young as four, and at-risk youths in the communities. Works on display included tie-dye, collage, printing, painting, ceramic jewellery, papier mache, pottery, screen-printing and macrame. The exhibition was well supported by the community and visitors to the event.
The ‘Art on the Street’ programme runs between September – June of each year.
The Irie Kidz® Foundation not only develops its own programmes but also collaborates with other organisations that have complimentary objectives. #BornToBeGreat
